The Three Pillars of Life

Since the beginning of mankind, every human life has been upheld by three pillars, each one just as important as the others.

One pillar cannot be given more or less attention than another. If one pillar is lacking, the other two will suffer as a result. Although there are many different beliefs about what defines the pillars of life, all of these ideas can be placed into three distinct categories. Mind, Body, and Soul.

Mind

Let’s start with the mind. As the most powerful tool in the world, the mind must continue learning and it must be challenged on a daily basis. The best way to do so is to be a curious human. Focus on consciously seeking to learn new information. Read books, listen to podcasts, watch helpful videos, take courses, and most importantly, put them into practice.

Body

Your body requires daily movement and even more importantly, proper fuel in order to operate at maximum potential. Filling your body with high-quality vitamins, minerals, and nutrients will not only help you to live longer, but it will help you to feel better. Something as simple as taking daily outdoor walks releases endorphins, exposes you to the extremely important Vitamin D, and helps connect your soul to nature—perfectly connecting the three pillars of life. A happy & healthy body leads to a happy and healthy mind and a fulfilled soul.

Soul

Finally comes the soul. Sometimes, things like going out with friends, creating a piece of art, or eating a dozen donuts are just good for the soul. Being uptight and too strict with the first two pillars may lead to a lacking soul. Just like your mind and body, the soul needs to be fed daily.

Below is a list of some of my favorite activities that I strive to do daily that help to develop the pillars of life and fulfill intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual human needs. As you will see, many of them fit under more than one category, most of them fitting under the pillar of Soul.
