How to Actually Achieve Your Goals

Setting goals is one of the most important things an aspiring person can do.

Set goals for the year. Set goals for the quarter. Set goals for the month. Set goals for the week. Set goals for the day.

It’s extremely important to have different goals for different time periods. You are unlikely to make ten million dollars in one day. But you can set a goal of making $100 in a day. Then tomorrow aim for $150.

Things take time. James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, reminds us that Rome was not built in a day, but they were laying bricks every hour. If the Romans didn't have the goal of building a city, then they certainly wouldn’t be laying bricks and there might have never been a city of Rome.

Something I’ve learned in business, fitness, and life is that goals lead to manifestation.

If you can’t even write down a goal for yourself, then why would you expect it to ever happen?

So many people say, “if I had a million dollars.” Maybe if instead, they started saying, “when I have a million dollars,” then they would actually have a million dollars!

I have read countless stories and anecdotes of people setting a goal, writing it down, believing that they will achieve it, visualizing what it will be like once they achieve it, having a raging desire to achieve it, and then actually achieving their goal!

It’s a simple process. It just takes discipline, belief, visualization, desire, and chiefly, action.

This is the part where people tend to get lost. Setting the goal and believing in it will only lead you to opportunities, but it is what you do when meeting an opportunity that determines whether or not you will achieve your goal.

Although setting the goal is oftentimes half the battle, actually taking action is what really makes the difference.

This blog was a goal of mine. I wrote it down as a goal. I believed that I would start it. I visualized what it would be like once it was up and running. I had a raging desire to create it. And finally, I took action. That's the only reason you're reading this right now.

If you remember anything from this post, let it be this:

Without action, there is no reaction. Without cause, there is no effect. An object at rest will stay at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. These are the laws of nature. Use these laws of nature to help you achieve your goals.

The process I've found most effective to achieve a goal:

1. Set a goal

2. Believe in the goal

3. Visualize what it will be like once you’ve achieved the goal

4. Have a raging desire to achieve the goal

5. Take immediate and conscious action
